Epiduo – gel for acne with benzoyl peroxide

Acne, which manifests itself on our face, can be treated with various methods. However, a larger number of people who suffer from it use medicines. These include medicines, including those with antibiotics, and preparations acting from within the body. They are very effective, thanks to which they reach the source of the disease directly. However, it also requires dealing with noticeable symptoms such as pimples, anthrax and pimples, which disfigure our face. In this case, ointments and gels, which are used to apply directly in the area of occurrence of changes, will be applied first of all. They will surely be effective here. Here very popular is Epiduo.

Gel for acne – What is the most important active factor?

This is how we get rid of acne lesions. It is usually chosen by an increasing number of patients, thanks to which it is quite effective. It depends on the type of so-called active agent used in the preparation. These can be based on various substances ranging from hydroxyl acids through retinoids – derivatives of vitamin A, but also the strongest, which include benzoyl peroxide. Its content can also be found in Epiduo. However, before using it, it is good to thoroughly get to know all its composition, effects and possible side effects that it may bring.

This method of getting rid of acne lesions is available only on prescription. It consists of two active substances, which are designed to effectively deal with acne vulgaris. This helps to get rid of the associated pimples, eczemas and papules. This is due to such active substances as:

  • Benzoyl peroxide – it belongs to the group of organic peroxides and is formed during the reaction of hydrogen peroxide with benzoyl chloride. It is characterized primarily by antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. It is a component of many acne remedies. Everything owes its keratolytic effect. It is very effective in stopping excessive seborrhoea. What is increasingly the cause of this disease. It also dries the skin, prevents itching and supports collagen production. Minimizes any bacteria threatening especially those of the anaerobic group such as Propionibacterium acnes. It thoroughly cleanses the pores and exfoliates the horny layer of the epidermis, just like hydroxylic acids. For safety reasons it is used only in the maximum concentration of 5% and only for a certain period of time as recommended by the doctor.
  • Adapalene – This is an aromatic carboxylic acid, which is a third generation retinoid and an innovative variant of vitamin A. Its great advantage over the previously used is to minimize the risk of side effects, but at the same time to increase the effectiveness of acne treatment. The effect is to reduce the keratinization of the hair follicle outlet, which prevents the formation of eczema in this place. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect and reduces excessive sebum secretion.

Epiduo – Dosage and effects on acne lesions

The manufacturer states that the gel Epiduo should be applied only on emerging pimples, so as to avoid lubrication of the entire face. It is best to use it once a day – in the evening after thorough washing and drying of the skin. It is spread until fully absorbed, but by-passing the eye and mouth area. It should not be spread on damaged skin on cuts or abrasions. After applying Epiduo it will be great to apply another layer of moisturizing cream. However, this gel starts to work after about 4 weeks from the first application. After a few more, the number of pimples is significantly reduced. There are no new ones either. This gel turns out to be also effective for discolouring and decreasing the visibility of already existing acne scars. However, many patients stop using it only a few days after starting treatment, which may be due to side effects.

Epiduo – possible side effects

Side effects Epiduo results from two active ingredients. These are substances with a rather aggressive effect. In the case of adapalenoids, these can only be slight redness or pruritus. However, they will use benzoyl peroxide, and we have to reckon with it:

  • Painful burning and erythema of the skin
  • Excessive peeling of the skin
  • Swelling and rashes at the place of application of the gel
  • Hypersensitivity of the skin to radiation UV, during the period when the gel cannot be exposed to the sun.
  • Contact dermatitis.

So this is a large list. Additionally, Epiduo is not recommended during pregnancy. In addition, during breastfeeding, its use should be consulted with a doctor. Luckily, however, most of these symptoms pass after discontinuation of medication, but they do not occur in all patients. Opinions about this gel are still quite unambiguous. Some praise him for his high effectiveness and quick removal of all acne lesions, but a lot of people have become disillusioned with him because they suffered from the above mentioned ailments. However, the final decision on its application is, of course, the individual case of each patient. Any current symptoms should be dispelled with the appropriate specialist who assigns this medicine.

There are also situations when the external treatment alone proves to be insufficient. It is necessary to support the body from the inside, to provide it with all the nutritional values, which cannot be provided by an inadequately composed and poorly nutritious diet. For this purpose, dietary supplements can be used, of which the most frequently chosen is Nonacne, which is based only on natural and vegetable ingredients such as nettle, grape seeds and red clover. The effectiveness of this preparation equals that of gels and ointments with benzoyl peroxide, with the simultaneous absence of these side effects. Nonacne can be purchased online. The order will be placed on the manufacturer’s website, where we can get up to 60 tablets fully satisfying the needs for 30 days.
